I think all Albertans can agree our health-care system needs some change. I also believe Albertans realize our population is getting older and people are living longer.
Yet — and please forgive the harsh tone of this particular paragraph — resources are limited. The declining price of oil is … well, I don’t have to say anymore.
So to scribble Alberta’s health-care system is being challenged is a huge understatement.
However, perhaps an argument can be made that as we go down this journey — uncharted territory, indeed — Alberta Health Services owes it to Albertans to be upfront.
Transparency is absolutely key in this situation.
Postmedia reporter Janet French’s Monday story was somewhat jarring. French reported an internal memo from AHS Dec. 19 from Gregory Cummings saying overtime will now only be authorized for “for traumas, emergency surgery and outbreak situations, all overtime hours must be pre-approved.”
OK. But several questions surface.
