It was a wonderful sunny afternoon Wednesday — 22C, in fact. The summer fare could very well include hot dogs, burgers, potato salad and — are you ready? — turkey dinner.

Just do the math: Wednesday was July 25 — five months exactly until Christmas Day. The weather sure doesn’t feel like Christmas. Santa Claus might be a little toasty in his suit.

But, Christmas is always on our minds as a special magical time. And everyone should be able to celebrate and enjoy the festive season.

I guess Wednesday was the start of the Christmas campaign. Because it’s never too early to care and share.

Turkey and all the trimmings were on the menu Wednesday when the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton carved out a new event to get people talking and thinking about the Bureau’s journey to raise funds to provide Christmas for those who, otherwise, wouldn’t have one.

Here at the Sun, we’ve been already working on things.

will hit the internet in October. It’s going to be a great few days of online bidding.

Along with auction co-ordinator Nic Good, I am enthused and excited this year’s auction could be one for the record books.

….the Good Guy

Nic has been hitting the pavement and sending out countless emails to find great items for you to bid on.

When we chatted Tuesday, the Good guy — and, trust me: he certainly is — says we have close to 80 items locked down and secured.

We have a secret number of items we are aiming for this year. And we will share that attainable figure in the very near future.

But this is one important number we’d like to share: $135,000.

Let’s look at that again a different way: one hundred and thirty-five thousand dollars. That’s this year’s goal and we’re confident — right, Nic? — we can achieve that.

But … we can’t do it alone.

And we’re asking you to join us.

Nic is collecting all kinds of items, from once-in-a-lifetime, behind-the-scene experiences, to gift certificates, to aviation experiences and many more.

If there’s something you or your business could share, please let us know. We offer several ways to celebrate and promote your kind contribution.

Maybe you have a secret getaway you could share with us for a few days.

Or, perhaps you have a talent and you could give lessons or a tutorial to the highest bidder.

Or, maybe you have a favourite place to go for dinner, with your favourite waiter. Why not host someone?

It’s all about sharing and caring.

unds from the auction great local charities: the Christmas Bureau, Adopt-A-Teen and Catholic Social Services.

If you’ve already contributed to this year’s auction, we can’t thank you enough.

If you would like to be involved, email Nic at Nicholas.good@christmasbureau.ca

We’d love to hear from you … even on a hot, sunny day in July.

Now, you’ll have to excuse me. I want to go find some more cranberry sauce for my turkey.
